Ba-leep – “Can you hear me? La, La, La-La!” – ba-leep

Jackson and Andrew were playing with their new walkie-talkies this morning and I couldn’t help but laugh at their limited dialogue. They were so worried that they weren’t being heard that they never actually asked or said anything. Like cabbies honking their horns in NYC traffic… Ba-leep – “Can you hear me? La, La, La-La!” – ba-leep.

I began to wonder if we sound the same way to God. So many of us doubt that God can hear our prayers or if He even exists to hear them in the first place that we end up sounding just like the boys. “God, can you hear me?” (I normally leave out the La, La, La-La part) Sadly, we never actually ask for or say anything because we are still feeling so self conscious about our potentially crazy practice of talking to ourselves… and calling it prayer.

The Bible says,

  • In my distress I called to the Lord; I called out to my God. From His temple he heard my voice; my cry came to his ears. – 2 Samuel 22:7
  • Does He who implanted the ear not hear? Does He who formed the eye not see? – Psalm 94:9
  • Surely the arm of the Lord is not too short to save, nor His ear too dull to hear. – Isaiah 59:1
  • Before they call I will answer; while they are still speaking I will hear. – Isaiah 65:24
  • For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and His ears are attentive to their prayer, – 1 Peter 3:12

Let us be certain, God does exist and He does hear our prayers.

That doesn’t mean that we will always get them answered as we hope, but neither does that fact mean He didn’t hear our prayer.

Let us continue to offer our prayers to God and know that He does, in fact, hear them… ba-leep.
