All of this means that human beings – because of their very nature or essence – ought to be treated with dignity, respect, and compassion – all of them, regardless of their age, race, gender, or ability to function “normally.” It is our divinely-given human nature – not how much we can contribute  to society , how well we can function physically or mentally, how healthy we are, or how optimistic our prognosis is – that gives us our unique value.
